I saw a QuickBooks Course being offered at a Hotel Conference Room…Why not take that class?

You’ll see many classes being offered by local colleges and by Intuit (the makers of QuickBooks).  These classes can cost anywhere from $400-$800 and can be two or three day courses.  In most cases, they are not local and therefore you are paying for an employee to not only attend the course but to stay at the hotel where it is being held.  You are also losing productive time in the office.

These classes are not BOOKKEEPING classes!  This is one of the biggest misconceptions of these courses.  The classes are specifically for the operation and function of the software.  How to be creative with reports, how to import and export from QB to Excel or your online banking, how to use the document module to create custom forms such as invoices and purchase orders, how to navigate the software and access each module, etc.  All of these features are provided with my training!

These courses are not informative when it comes to your business and how you need to do your bookkeeping.  They aren’t going to show you how to post a vendor bill that needs to be job-costed to a specific job or an Estimate that was accepted by the customer and now needs to be turned into an invoice, or receiving items against an open purchase order and so on and so on.  Is it going to be worth that $300-$700, three day course, for you to learn how to custom design your invoice?

Finally, Intuit’s tech support is based out of India and although they are helpful for technical issues with the QB Software, the language barrier makes it very difficult to understand.  They will not assist you with a bookkeeping question either.  They only provide support on the functionality of the software only!  Why not go to a company that provides both bookkeeping and technical support…someone that is local…someone that is available 24/7…someone who knows your business?
